And\, how do we practice covenant when things are hard?

SUMMARY:𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐜𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 (𝐅𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐤 𝐃𝐢𝐱𝐨𝐧)
DESCRIPTION:This little talk translates Plato’s cave scene into a more up to date view of the difficulties we encounter in attempting to “go beyond” or to transcend the knowledge provided more directly by the senses. By more graphically picturing the human mind’s freedom\, we may come to understand more easily why some people don’t agree with us.

DESCRIPTION:Hearthstone School has been a longtime presence in Rappahannock County\, offering an alternative educational philosophy compared to public schools. Three of the Hearthstone staff will relate the founding and history of the school\, as well as the essentials of Waldorf education. The topic should be of special interest to members of UUBRidge\, as we have had our home at Hearthstone for over 12 years.

SUMMARY:𝐕𝐞𝐠𝐞𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐦—𝐂𝐡𝐨𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐨𝐫 𝐍𝐞𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲? (𝐋𝐞𝐞 𝐒𝐢𝐦𝐨𝐧)
DESCRIPTION:Lee will make the case that vegetarianism is now a human necessity. In the past it has been a free choice in most cultures. Today\, the global consequences of not being a vegetarian culture are much too dire to ignore. \nBy the year 2025\, two years from now\, 2 of every 3 humans on earth will not have enough fresh water to drink. The methane gas animals put into our atmosphere\, coupled with the greenhouse gasses produced by the use of fossil fuels to transport and refrigerate the meat\, contributes to melting the ice caps that give us fresh water. It’s all tied together ecologically. We are in crisis mode.

DESCRIPTION:Spring Equinox is a time to reconnect to Earth\, in all her budding glory. One way of doing this is through the growing of green things and reconnecting to the food we eat. Instead of centering our worship around a sermon\, we will be performing a seed planting ceremony to honor our connections with Earth and the Equinox. Please feel free to bring seeds to swap!

DESCRIPTION:“My mission to change the narrative of mental health\,” a video from TED\, was a welcome reminder that mental health has become a subject we feel able to talk about more freely. Some people in public life\, such as Sen. John Fetterman\, have led the way by talking about their own struggles\, and that has helped to reduce the stigma of seeking help. Despite the progress\, do we have a much longer way to go?

Some of this fear\, which can veer toward despair\, arises from our perception that there is nothing individuals can do to push back on behalf of a kinder world. This video\, by the head of TED\, Chris Anderson\, points to a way.

DESCRIPTION:A divorce and career-oriented life left David Brooks feeling empty and alone. He realized he had fallen for lies our culture tells us about finding fulfilment\, lies which have been largely responsible for a “social and relational crisis” in our country. SUMMARY:𝐇𝐮𝐦𝐚𝐧 𝐒𝐞𝐱𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐯𝐬. 𝐒𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐒𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 (Lee Simon)
DESCRIPTION:Mankind has been grappling with sexuality since the days of the cave men and women. It’s testosterone and hormones versus morals and taboos and laws. Probably every approach to it has been tried\, with a wide variety of approaches. There are no universal answers. We don’t even have the right questions.

SUMMARY:𝙒𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝐃𝐨𝐞𝐬 𝐖𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐧 𝐖𝐚𝐧𝐭? (Barbara Beach)
DESCRIPTION:**Based on the information received from Hearthstone and the low temperatures\, we will host this Sunday’s service virtually in the interest of safety. Click here to join via Zoom\, password: 077806. \n \nSigmund Freud asked: “What Does Woman Want?”\nIt was a question of a frustrated psychologist.  UU women and girls have asked that question\, too.  Barbara Beach will share what have we learned from women around the world\, what we have accomplished together\, and the religious implications of reaching out to women in UU and liberal faith communities in Northern India\, Romania\, Uganda\, Bolivia\, the Philippines\, and the US. How might women and men of UU Bridge participate in this pragmatic religious adventure?

SUMMARY:𝐒𝐀𝐍𝐆𝐎-𝐊𝐞𝐧𝐲𝐚 𝐔𝐩𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐞 (Kit Goldfarb)
DESCRIPTION:SANGO-Kenya has now been working in rural villages in Western Kenya for four years. The program has grown every year in response to the ever-increasing needs\, many caused by climate change. They now have nearly 500 farmers in the program\, 250 farmers just beginning. That translates to their direct impact extending to approximately 2\,500 women\, children\, and other household members. During this presentation\, Kit Goldfarb\, the co-founder of SANGO-Kenya\, will talk about the growing challenges\, how SANGO-Kenya and the farmers are responding\, and discuss what farmers and community leaders told her about the program during her last trip in Oct-Dec\, 2023. \nImage from: http://sango-kenya.org/category/sango-diary/  \n  \n

SUMMARY:The Nordic ‘Well-Being State’ (Will Daniels)
DESCRIPTION:In the United States\, we speak\, usually negatively\, of the welfare state. In the Nordic countries of Denmark\, Finland\, Iceland\, Norway\, and Sweden\, the same two words\, ‘welfare state\,’ capture the very purpose of national government: spreading welfare equally among all citizens. Can the U.S. take a page from the Nordics and begin to reverse our increasing inequality?
